Background Art

Hello, I have been doing small animations for a few years as a hobby and I was thinking of how to increase my involvement with animation as well as make some money from it. Since both me and my wife studied art in college I was thinking perhaps we could get work as background artists for animation (for example).

If any one had any advise how to approach this it would be appreciated. Here are some links to my art:

Two very different styles. Your wife's work is beautifully poetic -- I'd certainly pay to use some background images like that. One observation -- I downloaded one of the TIF images to look at, and it was 11 MEG! It's nice to get some good resolution pictures, but a 300k JPG should be perfectly adequate (means you can view it in the browser without having to download too).

There are plenty of image libraries on the web -- get in touch with them and see if you can get on their books. To give you some idea, I have bought stuff from flashloaded.net in the recent past for $20 or so; maybe you'd want more, I don't know?

Thanks for the encouragement and for the tip about the image libraries. I'll check that out.
My wife's art is inspiring for me, too. It has the look of some of the Hungarian animation I've seen.

Just an idea. For backgrounds for AS, you might see about recreating them as vector art, or even just break them up in to different plains of depth. That might add some value to what you offer.

Depends on if you want to focus on a specific market, I guess. I'm sure plenty of more traditional animators would love it as is. I'm just not so sure how well it would look behind an AS character. May be hard to get a harmonious style between vector and raster.

Of course plenty of people use images in AS.

Although layered backgrounds would be really nice to use in AS with the 3D camera.

I think your art is great
The problem with animators using your art work is that almost all of them are drawing pretty good themselves and have their own ideas and art.
In think you should use it yourself first.
Try to play with in in After Effect it might give you some new ideas
And animation does require a lot of angle backgrounds!
With weird camera view and even with some lens effect
So if you looking for someone using your art work you should do some thing like that too

why not put together a portfolio and visit some of the local animation studios?

You're in Hungary? There are a number of animation studios there.
