I just wanted to let anyone who's interested know that the final part of Episode 1 is now online. This is the moment that some of you have been waiting for: Dave and Brian put on their rock show at the strip mall in an effort to get lots of groupies. The song that they play is pretty fun, and this is the segment that gets the most comments when we show the cartoon to live audiences.
I hope you guys like it. Thanks for watching!

(it was at 47 views before I started sending out the link, I'm interested to see if I have any pull on the site, I'm assuming if I do it's minimal)-
Keep making more, I'm afraid I'm hooked-

Hey there! I'm just coming here to be an ass hole critic. Sorry I don't mean to offend you, but this is just a few things about your show.
1. I really like the style, that's the best part about the show. (Oh, BTW, what do you use to edit your animations - like Final Cut Pro or something? And what OS do you have - Mac, Windows, Linux... ? thanks)
2. The only thing I find wrong with your show is the storyline. I don't find it very creative, but that's probably because I prefer shows that are of satire humour. (Just out of curiosity, are you going to satire people in your show?)
But I have subscribed on iTunes and will be watching. I'm so jealous of that style, I really like it! Thanks!

Thanks for the kind words, and for the criticism! I'm not offended at all, and I appreciate hearing other people's take on the show. To answer your questions:
1) I use Final Cut Pro. A lot of the editing is actually done in ASP, by just moving the camera from a two-shot to a close up, for instance. But for transitions between scenes and such, I use FCP.
2) Satire isn't really what we're going for. We always intended this to be more like a sitcom that just happens to be animated, and a lot of it is based on our actual experiences. That said, there are some upcoming story lines that definitely stray from the standard sitcom format, so the show is evolving a bit differently than the original concept.
Thanks for taking the time to comment, and subscribe to the show!

Hey thanks for answering my question. I've surfaced a few others too, which I think would be very helpful to me as well
1. Do you have a fully equipped studio with like a heap of Mac's and lots of people working on the show (no doubt this is probably what would happen if you did get signed to air on TV)? Or do you just use like 1 or 2 computers to do your work on?
2. Do you have a render farm? If so, how did you build it, and how many computers are joined? What operating system is it (for the render farm)?
3. What software do you use to record sound?
4. Hmmm... I just had a question, but I'll have to get back to you with it soon, if I remember it!

Let's see here....
1) One Mac Pro; I do all of the animation, sound recording and editing myself; I write most of the music, but my partner wrote some of the short cues; my partner and I wrote the first episode and did most of the voices, but we recently added a third writer/voice actor, who is also writing some of the music for upcoming stuff. Whew.
2) No render farm. The Mac renders pretty quick, so the batch export in ASP has been fine for me.
3) Logic Pro for recording dialog, and composing / recording the music. Occasionally I use SoundTrack Pro when I realize I need to add some sound effect in post.

ah ha, thanks so much, i remember the question now. do you render in 1280X720 HD? I'm to lazy to check if you do.
also, if you'd rather not release this, i pressure you to, but how much do you think you have spent on this so far? how much does it cost to produce an episode?
also, do you create the episode as one big project file file, or seperate project files - like ones you save and open in anime studio (i still don't understand this batch render thing - if you could explain it to me, i'd be happy)
and thats all the question i have. thanks for your answers

The first episode (the one that is currently online) was done at 720 x 540. All of the future stuff is being done at 1280 x 720.
How much it cost depends on a lot of things. Are you using a computer you already own, or buying one specifically to do the show? What about the software? Will you do the animation in your spare time, or will it be your full time job while in production? There are many variables, but you should be able to get close if you think it through. It took me about 6 months full time to do the first episode, but that includes a lot of pre-production that won't have to be repeated, and I'm able to do new episodes MUCH faster now.
Separate project files. Episode one is about 50 separate ANME files, not counting sets and characters, which were all created separately and imported as needed.
Hope that helps!
By the way, a new standalone (i.e. not part of a multiple segment story arc) goes up today! http://www.seaofidiots.com
Edit: Just posted the new episode: "The Way of the Future". You can watch it on the web at http://bit.ly/19Jf0i or in iTunes at http://bit.ly/zZYUD

Im back to annoy. Just wondering... how much did u pay for ur mac pro & what are the specs?
Cause I'm saving up to buy all this stuff (final cut pro, a mac (mac pro or imac, not sure yet)). i have anime studio pro and coreldraw, i also wanna get adobe audition/soundbooth. im running windows, but i hear mac is the industry standard for multimedia production.
thanks for putting up with me
