AS6 freezing Macbook Pro OS X

Post by Mikdog »

Heya,

While I totally dig AS 6, I gotta say TWICE today if freaked me out. After closing AS6 later I got these weird graphical glitches and the Macbook Pro froze. Rebooting caused some more graphical glitches on startup and more freezing.

Latert today it froze while I was using the program, weird graphical artifacts then BAM frozen. Then when I try to reboot, it goes to an apple loading screen with the apple logo and weird artefacts all over the place. Then telling me I need to reboot my machine. I did. About 8 times, until miraculously it worked OK.

I've removed the app, deleted it, and if my laptop STILL gives me issues, then maybe its a graphics card driver because I unlugged and plugged my Cintiq into my macbook pro while it was still on. Even though it may not be that, its the first time I've done so while not having my laptop in sleep mode when the hard disk's off and I know I'm supposed to only add or remove an extra display to the display out while the hard disk is off. So, I'm not exactly 100% sure that AS6 is to blame, but it is weird that it happened twice, once after using the program, I'm pretty sure it was closed when the first crash happened, and secondly while using the program while no second display, the Cintiq, was connected.

I'll keep you updated. Man. I love the new features of ASP6 but might have to wait for another update while more bugs are ironed out. Still though, after deleting the app if I still get crashes I'll have to check out my hardware. If not, I'm blaming ASP6 and saying its evil until the next update.

Yo.

Since you saw artifacts while starting up the macbook, I'd say it's quite unlikely that AS6 is the culprit. The unplugging of the Cintiq and/ or its driver are much closer suspects.

You may want to re-install the Cintiq driver, just to be sure.

Thanks, I've done that.

Hmm...I'm pretty scared to reinstall AS PRO 6. I'll do it after this project is complete. For now it looks like my mbp is running again. I'll have to wait and see if I can reproduce the problem.

Still, though. What I saw in ASP6 was awesome, man. Tested out the motion tracking, pretty easy to use ;) And the sequencer is fantastic. The LIBRARY window is out of this world, if you're doing a series or something it'll make life a LOT easier, with previews of the AS file too as far as I can tell, dragging a movie from the finder window into the AS window added it to the timeline, making separate scenes would be a lot easier now in AS, you'd just make folders for each scene, animate them from frame 1, then when you want you could piece together the scenes in order along the sequencer because any folders within the group also move, including all their keyframes. YAY!

What else...unfortunately I couldn't export a movie with sound unless it was from frame 0 (or frame 1, can't remember) but exporting from, say, frame 20 won't include the sound. Not TOO much a biggie I guess.

Otherwise, I love the GUI colours. Gonna wait and see if I get similar graphic problems in the next little while. Damn macbook pro. I love technology, but when it clutches out, its like the technology is linked to my mental health. I obsess until its working properly again. Unless EVERYTHING just breaks, in which case its too much t handle and I just get over it. Like the time when my desktop PC got flooded with water. Aah.

I distinctly remember someone saying that was fixed in ASP6. Seems to be the general trend. I hope everything works out for you, Mikdog.

Thanks man. Working? That'd be great. Wow. Like a fully-functional non-linear video editor ;) All my wildest dreams have come true.

Thanks synth. I remember reading you were having issues with your AVI export. Hope that's all been fixed.

Yeah, I had to restore my PC back to before the unholy demon spawn of the Walmart release touched it. (buggy damn beta) That thing even fouled up 5.6 when I tried reinstalling it to test. SM will be lucky if they have any repeat business from that retail sale.

Damn, now I can't export animation again. I could swear it was working for a while.

Seems to have worked fine last time I tried it.

I'm putting it down to me hot-swapping my Cintiq.

Silly.
