layer visibility question

Post by basshole »

So the ASP book says that the layer visibility that you can turn on and off with the little eyeballs (next to each layer name) ONLY affects the visibility in the work area, NOT final output. However, I have made some test movies and found that things I turn off using this method stay off in the movie, and things left on are on. So what gives? I understand if I'm keyframing the visibility of a given layer I'll have to use the on/off setting in the layer options, but what about if, in a given movie, all layers that are off stay off, and those that are on stay on?

If I understand you correctly, you may want to
use the opacity setting to adjust layer visibility.

CLick on a layer to bring up its menu. You will
see a box labeled opacity. You can keyframe
visibility percentages here.

Right. . .what I'm saying is, to save time, if I won't be animating the visibility during a movie, can you just turn it on off in the layers box, with the eyeballs? It seems to do the same thing with less effort.

You can change the visibility of the layer with the eyeballs or with the opacity option in the layer box.
But if what you want is to focus on the animation of a character you better use the eyeball for making disapear the other layers that may content backgrounds or other stuff that you dont care at the moment so that they dont distract you from the animation.
