Problem with Layer Ordering

Hi, Ive only been using Anime Studio for a month so bare with me if I sound like Im not making much sense! Ive been having difficulty with the layer ordering timeline over the past few days. It was working fine before and now, for some reason, I cant seem to control the layer order using keys. It seems to set keys when I move the layers around but the keys dont do anything when I play the animation back. Also if I click undo in the edit tab the layers switch themselves back to their original positions. Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks!

The first thing you need to check is that all the layers you want to re-order are in a group layer.

All the characters are inside a group layer but each character has a front and back version and these are inside switch folders inside the group layer.
