Is There An Online Manual For ASP6? (.PDF vids not working)

Post by Bee-ruce2 »

Hi. Trying out the Demo for ASP6 on a Mac.I've been looking through the manual for ASP6............especially those parts related to the new features.
With ASP5 ....if you go to menu-help-help.........it opens up a webpage manual that has the tutorials for all the features. Many of the tutorials such as 5.2 for animation lipsync include video clip examples showing the features/examples that you click to play.(I'm referring to the tutorials within the ASP manual.......not the seperate tutorials you find on the SM site when you go to Menu-help-tutorials)
In ASP6 , if you go to menu-help-help.......it opens up a" pdf " version of the manual that also makes reference to video clip examples........for example.......pages 207 to 214 explain the new motion tracking feature. There are pics with "play" buttons on them that imply clicking will activate them on pages 209, 210 and 214. On page 210 it says "the next movie shows one of these problem areas". However......clicking on them has no effect.
I thought perhaps you had to go to ASP's tutorial folder (on your harddrive) and open up one of the .anme tutorials..............however............I don't see any new tutorials for the new features........just the old ASP5 tutorials.
So I'm wondering if there is an "online" version of the manual like in ASP5 and if not, then how does one access the example/instructional vids for the tutorials in the instr. manual in ASP6?

Regarding the new features......
I hav'nt tried out near everything in ASP6 yet however a few things I like so far...........
- liking the better handling of audio and video clips
-- liking the option of undocking or docking windows and ability to resize
-- liking the option to turn off onionskins........can't count the thousands of times I accidently turned on onionskins and had to turn off again

-- liking the next/previous keyframes buttons
-- the motion tracking looks promising........(if I can find the tut clips:)

On the other hand...........am feeling a bit of "seperation anxiety" from some of the tool buttons........still hav'nt found the "flip layers" buttons, and "raise/lower shape" buttons and not sure if I'll miss the "automatic "keyframes at 0 and all channels being always visible. Anyways, will have to see if can get used to their removal. Was there alot of requests for getting rid of these?

Those buttons have been "moved" to the layer tools themselves. When any layer tool is selected the flip options are at the top in the tool area above the document. However I modified the old buttons for the new versions that you can use located here:

http://www.lowrestv.com/anime_studio/as ... uttons.zip

There is a text file in the zip that shows how to edit your _tool_list.txt file to add them back in. Just drag them or unzip them into the application /scripts/tools/ directory.
and "raise/lower shape" buttons
You can do this in two ways which are actually much easier than the buttons were. The up down arrow keys have done this since way back in the moho days. Yes... since Moho you could use the up/down arrow keys to raise and lower shapes.

Or you can use the menu commands in the "Draw" menu.

The main request that inspired this was a way to cut down on the huge deep layer palette. If you turned on all the channels in the time line settings they were visible in the time line ALL THE TIME. Wasted space and lots of scrolling. So now the channels only show up if there are keys on that channel. It might take getting use to but I kind of like it.

Check out this video on Youtube I did that covers some of this issue:

Vern........Thanks for the assistance.
Regarding the Flip Layers buttons.........I did'nt notice them up top now.....would probably get used to them up there but installed the old ones just for comfort.
Regarding the "up/down arrow keys"..........I"ve been using since Moho but had either never known about or completly forgotten about these....."As they say.......ya learn somethin every day".
Regarding the new method with the channels......."yea ........it may just take some getting used too."

Anyone else know about the "Tut vids"?

I'm just bumping this post up as I'm curious as to whether anyone has found a link yet to the missing Tutorial vids.It seems strange that LM would make a new manual with references to new tutorials but not post a link to view the tuts.

I'm on a mac, also, and the Videos won't show up if you use Preview to read the PDF document. Use the most recent version of Adobe Acrobat Reader -- that's what I use and I can watch the videos within the file with no issue :)

Thanks for the tip.........I"m currently using Adobe Reader 7 which won"t work with the manual.........looks like I have to update to Reader 9. However......can only install version 9 if I update my operating system.........there's the Rub! Ha! Back onto the updating merri-go-round just to read a manual.
