Timeline Issues

Post by ZER0T0THEC0RE »

I have a two-part question. I am running anime studio 5.6 (regular not pro). Whenever I'm working on anything the timeline seems to switch while I'm working, I usually dont have the time box open so I dont notice, but its been causing havoc even with the most simple tasks, (like creating a background). Is there a hotkey for advancing the timeline that I keep accidentally pressing to make it advance? Is there a way to turn this off?

That brings me to the second part of the question, now I'm left with a 'chopped up' project, with parts all over the timeline instead of a single background or character. I tried dragging all the points to frame zero but that didnt work, I also tried copying and pasting, this did not work either. On one of my backgrounds, I tried going back to frame zero and coloring it in here (the colors did not show up until frame 15 or so). But the colors did not take no matter what I did. Is there a way to fix it once its been chopped up like this or do I have to re-do this completely?

Its starting to frustrate me quite a bit, now I have to keep my eye on the timeline continuously. I have had to completely re-do some of my characters and backgrounds already.

The timeline just records what you do. If you draw something and the timeline is set to frame 22 then keys will be set there.

Generally it is best to draw everything on frame 0.
Set 'Highlight frame 0' in preferences to make it more obvious.

There is a nice scripte - Rylander's 'Two way ticket' (to frame 0) that I use that zips to frame 0 then back to where I was working.

As for all the chopped up stuff..? sounds very muddled.
As with any software there are ways of doing things. AS has no more un-expected variants than most. Work and learn 8)

Do you have a mouse with a scroll wheel? Using the scroll wheel over the time line will cause it to advance frames. Also the ARROW keys (left, right) will move through the time line. Until I memorized the CTRL+ Left/Right Arrow key command to nudge points I would hit the arrow keys expecting points to move and not realize I was on a different frame.

Open the time line and go to frame 0. Turn on all the channels in the time line settings so you can see which channels have keys. Select the key frames and press the copy and paste button in the time line to paste them onto frame 0.

If, however you have keys all over the place, "chopped up" scrub the time line to find the spot you want to keep, the spot you want on frame 0, and make sure you copy the keys before or on that key frame. You can also right click in the time line on the channels that have been keyed and insert a key frame if the "sweet spot" is in between keys. When you have copied the keys to frame 0 delete all the key frames.

Ha ha. I ran into the same problems when I was starting.

Try creating everything on frame 0. You may have a fill on frame 15, and extra points edited on frame 20, and you may have made more changes later on in frame 30, for example. Each time you make a change and your marker is somewhere other than frame 0 on the timeline, it will put down new keyframes for whatever you're doing. It is a bit frustrating and I think there should be an option for a layer to not make ANYTHING animatable until you say so, but as far as I know there isn't...

So, zoom out of the timeline, keep your marker on frame 0, and everytime you see new keyframes for anything along the timeline (make sure ALL he channels are visible in the timeline by going to SETTINGS just above the timeline and checking all the boxes. This is necessary in 5.6) and select the keyframes with your mouse and COPY and PASTE everything back to frame 0.

Once you've copied and pasted all the frames, delete all the frames along the timeline that you don't need anymore.

All the info is there, you don't need to redo everything, but, all the info's scattered along the timeline.

Hey Guys, Thanks for the replies, I have a laptop and an a compulsion for pressing the left and right arrow buttons, so there was my problem right there haha. I was able to fix my backgrounds by cutting and pasting in the timeline, thanks again!
