Batch Import Flash Vector Frames

Post by Blue »

Not to bash AS, but it currently does not offer the most effecient way of doing FBF. So my thought is to create the FBF in Flash and then bring in each frame of the vector work into AS.

However, I don't think there is a way to batch output vector from Flash and batch import to AS.

I understand all this is possible with raster images, but I'd like to keep it vector all the way until final rendering in AS.

Maybe I'm missing an obvious solution, I look forward to replies.

Can I ask why in the world you would need to "batch export" vector frames from Flash to AS... if... you actually have Flash? What's the point? Flash is great for frame by frame vector animation if that is the way you want to work. There is no advantage to exporting frames in vector format from Flash to AS. The enormous amount of effort required to create the keys showing each frame in AS would be mind numbing.

If there is something you need from a Flash "movie" then export it as an animation in raster format with an alpha, load that into AS and then add additional elements or animation. You will be giving yourself headaches and hassles for no good reason to do it the other way.

I have my reasons for wanting to do this; certain style attributes I can easily attain in AS, the stability of AS when using large images, 3D, bones for further tweaking if necessary (I only have Flash 8 ).

Staying in vector is the goal so I don't run into a pixel resolution ceiling.

Not if there were a "vector" import script similar to the "Import image sequence..." that comes with ASP6. I don't know anything about LUA or vector calculations, but I'm going to assume I can't just change a few file extensions in the script to import vector file formats.

On the Flash side I would need a frame batch export as .eps or .ai so that it would be a file format AS understands. My laptop died on me last night so I can't see if Flash has such a feature until I install it on my desktop.

There I go assuming again...

The "Load Image Sequence" script DOES load .eps and .ai files. Yay!

Now I need to install Flash and see if it batch exports...dun dun daaaah

From Flash export as version 6 .ai image sequence (I tried 8 and it crashed on load to AS) .

Eps files from Flash crash AS if using the "image import sequence" script.

Some years ago (was it really that long ago??) I had a job which involved getting Flash vector artwork into AS. It only worked with the help of Illustrator, so it was a pretty clumsy way to do. I had described that workflow here in the forum.

What happened was this: certain corner points were translated as curve points, so I had to correct each image painfully slow. And, more important: every outline in Flash was transferred into a shape in illustrator, making it really difficult to bend in animation, with lots of point tweaking to avoid gaps in the artwork.

I really can't recommend that workflow.

If you really need to do frame-by-frame in a vector format, stay with Flash, or have a look at Toonboom.
