Can I keyframe layer order?

Post by eboedasicko »

I have two objects, object "A" and object "B". I want "a" to be on top of "b" when the animation starts but as it continues I want object "B" to be come infront of object "A". How do I keyframe the layer order?

First, since version 6.0 on group or bone layer you must activate the "enable animated layer order" on layer propieties, depth sort tab.
Then, all the changes of order you make on time will generate a keyframe which you can see on timeline when the bone or group layer is selected.

Selgin, I can't get this to work. I have a group with "Enable animated layer order" selected in Layer Settings. On frame 1 the group is at the bottom of the layer stack. On frame 20 I've moved it to the top. But it doesn't animate. Maybe I'm setting the keyframes the wrong way. Seems like the logical way to key the group would be with the Translate Layer icon?

The layer order works with layers inside the group, the groups marks the keyframes of layers inside it.
If you want to move a hole group, you must to create a new group and put the others inside. If there is no parent group, there is no animated layer order.
