Anime Studio Pro 6 Linux
Hi,
I am excited to let you know that we're working on the release of Anime Studio Pro 6 Linux.
If you are interested in testing the Linux version, please contact me via PM as soon as possible.
We're looking at officially supporting Ubuntu 8 & 9, Suse 11.1 and Fedora 11. It would be great to get some feedback from Linux users that run other distributions.
Thank you,
Sarina

Hi Sarina,
it is great to hear that you're going to release the linux version of AS6!
I just have two remarks:
There are several bugs listed for the linux version in the bug tracker. It would be a good idea to start with those ones, isn't it?. I have 19 ones listed there and none of them are assigned.
Also some of the common ones from windows version are reproducible in the linux version too. Are they fixed on the linux version or should we try to reproduce them too in the beta version and mark like that in the tracker?
Since there seems not to be any advance in the last beta (2008/08/28) from the previous beta (2009/07/15), I'm lost about what have been updated/fixed between them. A Release notes or Bug logs bundled with the beta would be a good idea too.
Regards

linux
Ah, good to know, the difference is only in the import/export/upload features!! For anyone who doesn't create solely with Anime Studio Pro, but in conjunction with other software, it's not an issue at all.
This will be the push for me to set up Win/Linux dual boot.

Re: linux
Not only. No video import, then no Bone track to Video or Layer track to Video features. Those features are not listed on the comparison list.walterhemming wrote:Ah, good to know, the difference is only in the import/export/upload features!! It could be interesting that both tracking were enabled to Imported image sequence too. Conceptually it is the same as for video tracking.

Re: linux
Sorry for the ignorance, Genete, but can you tell me which is the reason you can't import or export any video format on linux?Genete wrote:Not only. No video import, then no Bone track to Video or Layer track to Video features. Those features are not listed on the comparison list.
Isn't there any alternative to mov or avi on linux which could be added on AS? that sounds pretty weird.
Re: linux
In linux, like in windows or in mac the video import relies in external libraries. In windows and mac there are one standard that possibly all the win/mac users have installed: Quicktime for mac and "I don't know which" for windowsselgin wrote:Sorry for the ignorance, Genete, but can you tell me which is the reason you can't import or export any video format on linux?Genete wrote:Not only. In linux there are lots of libraries to import/export video and none of them are standard or fixed in all linux distributions: ffmepg, libavcoded, libgstreamer, mencoder (mplayer), etc. So I guess that it makes Mike to not decide for any one in particular. But there is not technical reason to not include those features in AS for linux.
Maybe Mike himself has a better and accuracy response.

fazeck did a small plugging to use mplayer as viewer of image sequence produced from AS.
anime studio pro 6 linux
Hi. I just bought the linux version of anime studio pro 6. My linux system is Fedora 12. Now, import / export of video is a missing feature, and true there is no standard in linux, still, ffmpeg is a common used library for these tasks, and as far as I know, ffmpeg is present in all the differen repositorys, no matter what distribution you're using.
-Ubuntu
-Redhat
-Fedora
-Debian
-OpenSuse
-Mint
-Slackware
I think I'm right saying that I have listed most of the major distros, and as far as I know, they all got ffmpeg. I would expect this a feature to be available in future releases.
Without reading any pages in the manual, I managed to make my first animation. A very basic bouncing ball (The hello world application of the animating world). It wasn't too difficult. I exported the animation as jpeg, and converted it to a movie file in kdenlive. This workflow seems to work pretty good, so exporting video might not be such a huge problem anyway....
