styles in v6

Here's something I've only had to mess with occasionally, but it's weird and annoying me.

For some reason, when I go the style box and click the style drop down menu in v6, I don't get a list of styles. I get no window opening at all. Somehow I can select stuff, accidentally, sometimes, even though I can't see what I'm doing, but as far as styles related to the layers in the project, nada. Where'd everything go? Is it 'cause all the layers were created in v5? I can't even get the option to create a new style. This has never worked in v6 but I have avoided really dealing with it 'til now.

Have you figured out how to deal with styles yet? I have problem using them as well. Using styles brings me more mess than benefits yet...

sorry no. i know how to do it in v5 but nothing with styles seems to work right in 6
