Wondering how to accomplish a certain animation task? Ask here.

Drawing like Flash brush tool?

Post by SJHooks »

Me again :D. I was experimenting several times with ASP5.5 (gonna update to 6 eventually), and I finally gave up on trying to figure it out myself. Can ASP5 or 6 draw the outlines like the flash brush tool? (I really wouldn't know how else to phrase my question, mainly due to my lack of animation vocabulary). I know about the vertex based drawing, so instead of having to manually make a vertex to intersect two seperate lines, can I just run one line through another line so they intersect (but are not connected originally using verticies?); is there a way for ASP to automatically intersect the two lines and make a vertex to connect the two, rather than, like I said, having to manually make a vertex or two and connecting the two manually. This specific feature is the type that (to me anyways) greatly differs ASP5 to something like Retas! Stylos HD or Flash, when it comes to drawing the vectors anyways. Cheers.

No, it doesn't work like that in AS. When you examine the vertices of a brushed line in Flash, there are many nodes around the edges. Essentially it is a filled shape with no outlines. There is no equivalent to this as a drawing tool in AS; you have to manually construct your own shape through joining a load of vertices together. This is because AS drawing tools are optimised for animation, not drawing static images.
You can't have everything. Where would you put it?

Hey SJ,

ASP is extensible due to scripting. Rudiger has done some amazing stuff with a bone morph rig, but he's also working on an enhancement to the drawing tool. I don't know Flash, and I've not yet worked with this one Rudiger is working on, but you ought to check out this thread.

Rudiger contributes to the post as to what he's working on, and what people want. If this is the type of tool that you'd like, you might consider making a modest Paypal donation towards the time. It is rare that a user can influence a tool set with such quick feedback.

If the tool he's working is not what you are talking about, you might still get some ideas from the thread. Or give share some new ones...
