Ramon:

Well, I've had over 25 hours of testing time with PICMO, and, although it offers tremendous promise, it has started crashing every few minutes, sometimes locking up my entire computer.

I've run the gamut trying to troubleshoot the whys and wherefores, but no combination of settings seems to provide a lasting solution.

I think there are some large memory leaks causing most of the problems - and if that is the case, it is relatively good news, because I think they can be fixed in pretty short order.

This makes me feel terrible - both from the standpoint of my inability to be productive with it, but also for praising it a little prematurely. Sorry if I raised expectations and wasted anybody's time.

Still, I own it, so I am going to keep a close watch for updates and fixes. Next time I post, I'll make sure I have even more "testing time" under my belt.

I have also just bought Picmo and it keeps crashing for me too, I can work with it for a 10 minutes or so and then it starts crashing, so I have not been able to investigate all possibilities with it yet, but it sure look promising.
I run it on a mac ppc G5 dual core osx 10.5.8

One suggestion I can make is to save every 5 minutes or so, and give each file a new name. This way you can track at what point in "creation" you've done something the app does not like - that is if you care to go through all of this "pain". It is painful, after all, and rather unrewarding. Also, by saving different files you can minimize "file corruption" and have something to save you from having to recreate everything over again.

Yes that's a good tip, often the file get corrupted so I'll start doing that.
Thanks for the tip!

Continuous Crashings? Locked up computers?? It's clear you only are writing here that I wanted to read! :D So thank you to try to make me feel better :)

Now, seriously... the good thing, after all, is that it seems like if PICMO had a great support team at least! Cause, as soon as I wrote explaining my problem, they are been making all kind of tests and keeping me informed via e-mail about the process although, unfortunately, there is no solution or even a clue about possible reasons yet... Anyway, I have sent new info and files that I hope they find useful, so we'll see...

Well, the really bad thing, is that, as I imagined, I won't be able to test the program after the seven days pass, so I feel a little disillusioned about all this and, I'd say more, even in disappointment by some kind of decisions, like that one of restrict the beta program to only a bunch of people of his members club, limiting in this way the main purpose of the beta testing and making us now to suffer the consequences... I bet that actual PICMO situation would be very different if they didn't have put obstacles for such a thing, but quite the opposite... So I hope, at least, someone have learned a lesson... Well...

OK, I also tried the program, It doesn't crash on opening, but it gives and error message every time it start the program.

Personlly I would get Express Animator if you want to do this type of animation.

I have tried to contact the developer of this program several times over the last few months, and never received so much as an e-mail autorespond acknowledgement. Seems like good software (I especially liked the ability to import .bvh files for reference), as long as you never need support...
You can't have everything. Where would you put it?

Hmmm... I remember that I never received any response when I wrote'em in the past asking for information about the development but, as I said above, now that I'm finding technical "difficulties", I think they are doing his duty and they are trying to find a solution maintain me informed about the process, so... they seems to have people trying to do his best right now and I hope they be able to find a solution soon.

Well, this is my case at least, so... Let's wait and see!

Some years ago I wrote directly to Takeo Igarashi. He answer me in around four months. I can't say I wasn't excited.

I think they are done with development. There most likely be no more update or an changes to the software. But for a cheap Flash replacement it does the job.

I really do think the guy, Paul, is onto something significant with Express Animator. Lots of streamlined Flash tools and functions for an extremely reasonable price.

But, like some of you, I'm leery of investing in software that might become "evapoware". It exists now, today, but will it be there tomorrow?

This is the trouble with software development and sales: nobody knows where their investment will go. Time and money, down the drain.

Possibly.

On the other hand, in all good faith - I hope Paul manages to perform his promised upgrades, restoring faith in his entire user base.
