How Should I Export This?

Post by Dyson6 »

Hello everyone,
I have finished the animation I was trying to make but now I've run into an odd problem. When I try to export the animation as an AVI uncompressed it plays back with a lot of lag and is 151mb! Let me say this is a 15 second animation so to me it sounds odd for it to be such a huge file size.

I've been making these short animations for a platform shooter game I am developing so it doesn't have to be the best quality or anything since the movie itself is not my main purpose.

So I ask you, how would I best go about exporting this into hopefully a single digit mb but keep good enough quality that it doesn't look like crap?
(Because the game right now is like 5mb so the cutscenes bieng so huge seems ridiculous)

Hello Dyson!

What is the resolution, length of that video?

For avi you could try xvid, which is available for PC, Mac and Linux.

http://www.xvid.org

I prefer Quicktime, which has the H-264 codec, you loose a bit of color definition, but it shrink file size alot.

The quicktime Animation codec is somewhat lossless, with a surprisingly small footprint on files that have little noise.

http://www.quicktime.com

I have posted such a small file(431 kb) on that thread which was outputted with the maximum quality settings for the codec.

Hope this helped!

Thanks! I'll have to try this tomorrow.
And I have to use avi because it's the only way I know how to put it in the game.

Rendered that head turn in xvid from AS Pro

http://thewingsofpower.com/temp/toonheadXVID.avi

184 kb and looks lossless at maximum settings of 10000.

Same file is 58 mb uncompressed.
