Can I add points to a shape without changin the shape??

Post by Tobisama »

For example I got a shape, then I realize that I need a point in some place, but when is added always change a little my previous work (change the curve), I know that this is "normal" in anime studio, but there is a way to avoid it??

Not as far as I know. The new point naturally changes the shape. But you can use the Curvature tool to make it fit the way you'd like it to.

Another user mentioned this problem in this thread: I feel like I'm going Crazy, please help.

I'll paraphrase my reply from there:

"Every time you add a point to the shape it will deform because each point exerts some tension to the surrounding points. To minimize this effect, only connect to existing points or add more points uniformly to the shape to "stabilize" it. Do this by selecting all the points in the shape then use the Script->Draw->Split Curve and input 1 or 2."

Thanks for using a descriptive title. Makes it easier for someone to search for it in the future.

Use separate, stacked shapes to add bumps or detail. Much easier to draw, and to animate, and looks more convincing as a cartoon. Use the Hide Edge tool to keep the outlines tidy. For example if you wanted to draw a bumpy moon, don't draw a single shape looking like a squiggly pancake. Instead, do something like this.

For the record, you can add an extra point without distorting a shape, providing the two surrounding points are pointed (have zero curvature). So, it does work for straight edges at least.

There is a way to uniformly add points. Select all points in your shape. In top menu, choose Scripts|Draw|Split Curve, and then input a number.
You can't have everything. Where would you put it?
