Sorry for my bad english... Q_Q
To be honest I'd stay away from Linux. We got Linux boxes at work for rendering, pain in the butt most of the time, hardware and video drivers usually dont work properly.
That is not a problem for a render farm, but could become one for a workstation.
Just run Ubuntu from CD to test it out.
You can get update to AS Pro 5.6 LInux here

Ubuntu is one of the most downloaded distribution, has a regular and server version, but no professiannal support really. Installs pretty well and works okay on most system, my main grip with it is video hardware support.Imago wrote:Uhm... I never worked "seriously" with Linux... Now I will try some distros...
My all time favorite is RedHat, a commercial distribution on which Suse is based. Rock solid and installs pretty much all hardware out there.
Suse, a free distribution with RedHat core, not as pretty as RedHat and same problem with video support but more stable and more professionally oriented then Ubuntu.
Plenty of distros out there, better get a couple of tylenol before you dig in!

It works very well on linux. Only thing different from Mac and M$-versions is video support since LM chose to make that depend on Quicktime which is only available on windows and macOS. But working with image sequences is more stable and generally to prefer anyway.
GCharb, audio and sound problems are generally a thing of the past in linux. It now works very well I'd say.
Been using linux only for quite a few years now and are very happy about that decision.
