Problem with dynamics and lathed curves.

Post by GCharb »

Hello all

Been trying to use lathed spheres as dynamic objects dalling on top of a lathed disc.

The balls falling on the initial curve react ok, the others just go through the disk. Anyone tried that?

Here is the file.

It seems they fall through on the shading part of the non-movement object. i have no idea bud
Sorry for bad animation

The curves are on the right side of the collision object, also, at the end, the ball is half way inside the disc.

So my guess is that only the part where the curve is works, not the lathed part.

Keep in mind physics only works on the "real" vector shape. It doesn't really react to 3D shapes. It's 2d physics only. The balls falling through aren't hitting the shape. They pass through the "fake" lathed part of the floor.

Select the "floor" layer and play the animation. You can see the balls fall off the edge of the lathed shape. To fix this you could draw another shape that is filled with an invisible color that matches the lathed floor shape to simulate the physics.

You don't have to use half circles or half shapes to lathe a vector. Use a complete circle or shape and lathe it. It works great and is so much easier. This could help a little with your example but the balls might still pass through the shading.

LOL vern i was typing that as u posted it, on my 1st post about the physics i used an object that was invis to help the paddles bounce back, but i was saving that, grrrrrr, spoiler....

Heheh, thanks for the replies.

This is basically what I wa trying to say, I type good english but sometimes I get my feet mixed up! :)

I thought that was the problem but wanted other inputs on it.
