Prepurchase questions

Post by Muku6 »

Hello. I created an account to get a bit of starting help. More questions before downloading the trials and all. I just recently found Anime Studio and I like what I've seen and read thus far. I do have a few questions, that I hope someone can help me with.

1. I've not downloaded the trial thus far because I don't want to pony up my credit card information quite yet. I understand why do it, but I'm new to Anime Studio and a bit hesitant to offer that information before I'm sure about it. My concern is this: what kind of hold do they put on your card? The full amount of the product or just a nominal one? I only have so much on my card at the moment, and I want to make sure there's enough on it.

2. I believe I saw a link on here somewhere that provided a trial link. I think it was without requiring a CC, and was limited in features. How much is held back from this trial? If I used it, would it at least give me a decent enough view to make a decision on it, or would it ultimately be better to download it with CC on side. Depending on answer #1 would depend on my availability to do this.

3. Ultimately, not something that may help me now, but a bit of curiousity. I'm a beginner. I know Debut has a beginner tutorial, but I'm not ultimately sure if Debut will work for me or if I will want Pro instead. What would you all recommend? (Is the 100 dollars more worth the Pro vs Debut?) Also, if I buy Debut then decide I want to buy Pro, would I just pay the 130 upgrade price? (Would be done through digital download.)

I hope this is the correct place. I do thank in advance for any responses I get. Anime Studio is the first animation program that has caught my eye seriously, and from what I've seen from the community so far just browsing, I like what I see.

I'm very much a beginner, too, so keep that in mind when you read my answer.

I bought Debut 6.0 first and even though it had enough stuff I didn't understand to keep me busy for a long time I just couldn't get rid of the feeling that I was going to want to go on playing with this and that I'd be better off buying Pro. So I called them and they very nicely gave me an upgrade such that the total was as if I'd bought Pro from the beginning. I don't know that this is a policy. Maybe I caught the salesperson on a good day. But offhand I feel like it's a fairly safe bet. Actually you could call and ask them and if that is a policy you can try Debut and upgrade if you choose to.

As to which is the better to start with I'm not sure it matters a lot. I haven't seen the beginner's mode. They didn't have that in 6.0. So maybe that would make Debut more attractive. I don't know.

If you buy Debut first and you want to get Pro and they don't have an actual upgrade available then you've lost $40. If you buy Pro first and you find that you're not interested after all you've lost $200. So my suggestion is to weigh that when you decide which to buy, unless you find they do have that upgrade, in which case the decision is fairly obvious.

If in doubt, just buy Debut and you can upgrade later. I think I saw Debut for 39.99 somewhere and yes you will pay the 130 price if you buy Debut 1st and upgrade to Pro.

My only problem is that I can't just go to the store and purchase it. So if the deal you saw was in a chain store, then I'm kind of out of luck. I'm currently living in Japan, so any software I purchase at the store here will obviously be in Japanese. This is why I'd have to rely on the site. I'd prefer to avoid calling due to time difference but also cost of going through such an endeavor.

Thank you for the replies. I'll keep the cost factor in mind. I think in mean time I'll try to the Debut and pray that the hold on the card isn't much and that I don't need to buy anything in the mean time. I assume when you cancel it, your trial period ends as well.

I bought mine online from Smith Micro directly. Then I upgraded on the phone with a salesperson at Smith Micro.

You might try emailing and asking about the upgrade price from Debut to Pro.

Please do not take this personal. If buying AS debut or any software puts the quality of your living in jeopardy and you have to pray that nothing comes up in the mean time; I would suggest not buying this or any other software until your w/o any doubt that you can buy it w/o effecting the quality of living.

Please do not read into this wrong. I just hate to see people having to make choices between quality of life and entertainment.
