I'm taking all this in as I have to do fire soon
It's looking great. The particle effect of the sun's reflection is very impressive. It's going to be a nice looking short.

Maybe I could use soft edge and not so bright light?
I'd use a circle filled with a gradient, starting with the brightest light and fading out to the sand colour, then use the layer perspective tools to angle it into place beneath the fire, like this ...

Thanks Amigaman,
I've gotten a lot of great advice as the forum is full of teachers. I hope it turns out to be a nice short that every one will enjoy. I wrote the story in high school in 1978 as a creative writing assignment in English class and did the story board in Feb, 2010 after my wife gave me AS for Xmas last year.
It's really hard to make an animation while learning the software at the same time. But, My experience as a project manager has helped me tons with making the story come to life.
I did make a Gantt chart as a visual representation of what I need to learn and animate but I didn't set a time table to it.

And maybe use animated layer ordering so that before he goes over the edge, he's behind the waterfall and he's gradually revealed. That would give the sense that the camera is pointed up at the waterfall from below.
I moved the camera above the horizon and at an angle to the water fall and I gave the barrel weight.
I think the reflection is done other than adding or removing colors to it. Please leave me your opinion. Should I leave the light yellow color to it or go back to white or maybe a combination of colors.
You may want to add details/lighting to the wood that is burning. Granted some wood will be black because it has been burnt and that can be added to the details but it seem odd that you gave so much detail to the log and none to the fire wood.
I like the cloud animation but you may want to look at photos of clouds with the sun in the same position and adjust the color/lighting/shading if you can. Also they have the same basic shape a big cluster with a branch on the bottom right. Variety is the spice of life. Last but not least, unless a shadow is cast onto water, then water is pretty much a mirror, so the clouds reflected in the water should be the same color as the ones in the sky (but a little fainter).

I zoomed in on the wood in the campfire and It looks like I did use a image texture but the image is so small its not working. I think I can get better results with just shades.
I do not see any reason for me to upload an animation to You Tube just to get help on backgrounds because the help is coming in so fast and I been uploading garbage every day that a still could show.
Thanks

I don't use Gimp but I'm sure there is a way to make a layer with alpha. That way you wouldn't get the white halo around the clouds and fire.
Is there a way?
My one suggestion it that you use the two clouds colors together. The one on the right you use to be on the side close to the sun. The one on the left you use on the side away from the sun.
Are you going to be able to mix these colors with the animated clouds you had?

Thanks for the reply but I think you might be seeing something I do not see, the images all have alphas and the whites you see are not halos, they are reflections.
PLEASE point out more precise what you mean so I can fix.
This piece is fine as a showcase for the various techniques you've done in Gimp. I think you're ready to move on to your next piece, perhaps incorporating what you've learned here. You've gotten some great tips on rendering various surfaces, very useful for all of us.
What I would suggest on your next scene is to give more thought about composition. Arrange the elements to emphasise what is important. (I'd recommend a great excerpt about composition from Andrew Loomis's Creative Illustration, but I can't find the link right now.)
