Missile Launch

Post by fracturedray »

Being goofy. Made this missile trail and explosion.

Some brief notes...

Problem
Wanted to make the trail pass in front of and the behind part of the land scape.
Solution
Simply make a mask for the part that the trail needs to go behind.
Had considered key framing layer order but I think this would have made the trail disappear in a bad way.

Problem
When I moved the emitter around quickly and this caused the smoke trail to move along a bit with the emitter creating a strange moving trail.
Solution
I increased the dampening settings. This made it so the smoke wouldn't move very much so I also had to increase the velocity to get a little movement of the smoke drifting downward.

Problem
Needed a simple way to indicate dust was coming from the explosion.
Solution
Simply added a haze layer for each hill layer and animated the opacity. Then added some tiny particles to sell the impact of the dust reaching the camera.

I liked the camera-shake at the end, hehe. Great work again. Moreover it's great (again) that you completely share your work! Thanks for this.
