Eyeball Mat Layer Groups with Switch layers

Post by Psynema »

Is this possible or can you not have a nested Matte layer inside a switch layer.

Say if I wanted to have switch layers for closed eyes, angry eyes, surprised eyes as switch layers for the whites with PUPILS matted still?

Hopefully that's not too confusing

Yes.
Option 1 -- Use the structure:
Bone or group (to contain it all)
Switch Layer (eyelids)
Masked eyes and pupils (is not part of the switch layer)

Option 2 -- Don't use masking (may or may not be more work)
Switch Layer
Angry eyes left (copy layer and move pupil to make...)
Angry eyes right (copy layer and move pupil to make...)
Angry eyes middle
etc.
On the Switch layer properties, go to the Switch tab and check "Interpolate Sub-Layers". This will make the pupils move smoothly when you switch eyes.

or, use the technique i describe here:
http://www.screentoaster.com/watch/stUE ... e_stacking

then rig the pupils to a bone and you have complete freedom of movement.
