Codec for Pinnacle

I'm exporting the animations I create to Pinnacle studio.
I have Pinnicle 9 and just upgraded to 11.
I had been using the Cinepak codek for 9 but now, the same animations I had exported before don't load in 11.
I"m wondering what codec people are using for exporting to their editors.
I plan to edit the animations in Pinnacle and export for use on You tube as well as put onto a DVD. My stumbling block seems to be exporting to a reasonable compression and having it import correctly.

I've heard of people generating the animations in MPEG-4 but I don't have that as a selection when I export the animation.
