free photo reference -- and cel shading

I did a Google search today: "list free stock photography websites"

You say there's no free lunch?

Sometimes there is so much free lunch you have to push your fat belly away from the table!

The first list which turned up was so substantial I haven't even tried the other two lists yet.

Now, simultaneously, I came across a new Photoshop filter from Mehdi:

I have posted about Mehdi before, but I have not been using his filters as much as I expected to. This is no reflection on the usefulness of the filters, mind you--I just haven't adopted them into my pipeline.

Medhi's new filter is called "Flat Median." I felt that this had some potential in "tooning" or "cel shading" images, and today I used it as the first in a long filter pipeline on some photos from

They are fairly big images--especially the second one--so I am giving you the URL rather than using IMG code here.

Is this suitable for a toon, or what?

If it turns out that David likes them he can make them freely available on his web along with his originals.
