If you are having trouble doing something complicated then don't do it. Rethink your style or the motivation for what you want to do -and change it so you don't have to do the hard thing.
Although I don't have any problems doing this, at the moment I was performing an exercise -that is doing something hard for the sake of learning. I do however think that your choice of style can make expression more difficult.
"What do you mean?" -you should be asking yourself.
In my opinion, sloppy styles are best for comedy. Animation styles that are more realistic -are better for serious themed subjects.
Take Squidbillies for example:

If you haven't seen it, then I encourage you to visit the adult swim and check it out: http://www.adultswim.com/video/?episode ... 125f4d0080
The humor is coarse but the crudely drawn characters serve the purpose of being part of the physical comedy. Can you think of a comedian who just simply looks funny?
Serious animations on the other hand, mean for us to take them seriously. This requires the suspension of disbelief enough so that the animator can get his point across.
Akira for instance:

This movie demands that you take it seriously because there are definite rules that the characters must follow. The laws of physics are respected and the story is intense. I could not imagine this movie if it was made with bugs bunny styled characters. There is a preview here:

Well this is what I've got to say. Perhaps there are exceptions to my general opinion (Like Maus perhaps? -well that's a comic and not a movie anyway).
Feel free to express your own opinion.
