resampling timeline

Post by egendron »

maya has a great feature that allows you to speed up or slow down whole sections of an animated shot. you highlight the area you want to be affected. After that, you grab an arrow at the end of the highlighted area and drag (larger or smaller) in order to condense or extend the time factor.

can this be done in AS? (if it can ive not figured it out yet.)
thank you

it can be done but with some limitations.

Use Rescale Keyframes to do that. You can shrink or expand a piece of animation using that Animation menu entry.

The problem is that keyframes in Anime Studio are linked to the frame itself and the frame is an integer number (frame 1, 2, 3, etc.) regardless of the frame rate (integer too). Resampling a portion of animation means to place some keyframes on a non integer frame what is not possible in AS. So when you use Rescale keyframes you should consider that the original number of frames and the destiny number of frames should be multiples of both values. For example if resampling 30 frames you can do it to 2, 3, 5, 10, 15 (if shrink) or 60, 90, 120, etc if expanded. If you use other number combinations you would have strange results like different speeds in different places of the animation depending on the positions of the keyframes.

All this is theory so only experimentation would have a proper answer to the question.

Save your file first. The Rescale Animation order cannot be undone.

Good luck.

THANK YOU!
looks like it works ... as long as you do the math.
