The effect I'm needing is separate and independent characters, a boy and a bee, with the bee being on a lead (like a dog's leash)! I need to be able to animate both boy and flying bee independently, but have the 'lead' remain attached to the boy's hand and the bee's neck!
I've managed to tie one end of the lead but not both. Any suggestions!
Link a lead between a boy and a bee?

I assume this is a bone issue? This is tricky.
A few questions:
The lead is not "stretchy" correct? Could it be a straight line or is suppose to be "loose"? Does the bee always pull the line taut or does he fly closer and cause slack in the line?
Does the boy move during the animation? I mean does he walk around and change position?
I would suggest creating a stroke shape with a bunch of points. Create a chain of bones to control the line. The bone chain won't "stretch" so this will keep the "lead" from stretching.
The chain of bones should start at the boys hand. The bee's "root" bone or base bone should be a child of the last bone in the chain.
You can then use the Manipulate Bones tool to drag the bee bone around. This will of course cause the boy's bones to rotate as well. The only fix then would be to select the bones of the boy character and reset the unwanted rotations.
You could use bone locking but then the boy character can't walk around. Plus using the Manipulate Bones tool on the end of the chain would still cause rotations of bones in the boy character (not as much though).

2 choices:
- Put the bee's layers into one layer if you didn't do that already. Put that layer into the boy's main bone layer. This way everything stays together when the boy walks, but the bee will follow his movements.
- Leave them separately on the same level. Attach the leach to the boy's hand. Animate both until you like the result. Then animate the leash in a way its free end seems to be always attached to the bee.
I had that problem once with a frantically moving monkey on the phone. The cable from the handle in his hand needed to be attached to the phone. I chose option 2, with lots of bone stretching for effect.

I am yes, but I understand the principle of bones. I put it all together as a single character but getting the leash to perform has been causing problems.jahnocli wrote:This would be quite easy using bones. Are you new to the program? If so, try completing the Tutorials (under "HELP").
Another suggestions was the boy's hand mothering the leash mothering the bee. I think I've tried that but I'll try again.
Thanks

•The lead is not "stretchy" correct?
Correct.
•Could it be a straight line or is suppose to be "loose"?
Loose as lead would normally be, unless pulled straight!
•Does the bee always pull the line taut or does he fly closer and cause slack in the line?
Both
•Does the boy move during the animation? I mean does he walk around and change position?
He walks.

I've tried that once and had all sorts of problems. I'm a little more used to AS now, though, so I'll try it again. Thanks.
Thanks for your suggestions. I'll have a go tomorrow. (It's teatime in Thailand!)
