I am having trouble on my mac copying an action.
I select the inserted action on the main timeline, hit the copy button, and then using right click, I click on the new action and choose insert copy.
Nothing happens. Am I doing the sequence wrong?

The timeline 'copy' button is only for copying selected keyframes within the same timeline (action timelines being different). If you want to copy from/to actions you have to copy the whole timeline. So if you're copying from the main timeline, you may have to delete/move some keyframes to get what you want in the action.
On frame one (or higher) of the timeline you want to copy to, right click the timeline (in the actions window) that you want to copy from and select copy or reference.
