5.0.9 crashing when I press the Render command

I've been having a problem with the Mac version 5.0.9 crashing when I use the Render command (cmd-R). I'm drawing a character, and testing various brushes to use to make moustaches and beards on him, and rendering a still to check how he looks. Then I close the render window and edit the line or brush and render again. Every 5th or 6th time I render Moho crashes, ie., closes goes completely away. I'm saving my work as I go along, but not saving every single step I do, so I lose work back to the last saved version. Is this a known bug? Is there a fix?

I'm using OS 10.3.8.
