Just three (unrelated) thoughts about this:

Funny how just one foot made such an impression in our collective mind that everybody will recognize it.

Isn't it nice how much animation is present in political debates?

I like the thrown shoe. It was like a work of art. It was harmless, yet it made a point, and it was far better than any killing.

Unfortunately the guy who through the shoes was beaten, according to the judge in charge of his case. I think GWB should extend his original, unconcerned response to this event and offer to drop all charges and pardon the guy. He should have intervened and made sure that he wasn't mistreated. Yes, the man should be punished for his behavior but not beaten.

If we really want to show that free speech and democracy is a good thing let's put our money where our mouth is.
