Layers Visible in Layer Palette Checkmark

Post by mkelley »

Here's another one that should be easy and yet yield very significant workflow benefits.

In my own rigs there are usually only a handful of layers that need animating. There is, of course, the bone layer, under which all other layers sit. But under that bone layer there are now mask layers and other layers which don't need to be seen (since I'm not animating them).

Now, I can collapse all to the bone layer, and animate the bones just fine. But then I can't see the two or three other layers (switch layers mostly) that need animation.

So what I'd really like is a switch in each layer that says "show in layer palette" or something, and then a switch in the layer palette to "Show All Layers" or "Show only checked layers". Then I could simplify my rigs so that I ONLY see the layers that I need to animate.

This switch needs to extend to grouped layers -- so I can expand the groups but still only show those layers in the group I need to be concerned with.

This would be HUGELY useful and productive to me (and, I suspect, many others). Note that I can't subgroup the other layers below the bone layer since most of these layers need multiple bones to manipulate (otherwise I could simply subgroup all my lower layers and collapse accordingly -- however, even this wouldn't be as useful as a layer visible checkmark, since sometimes my subgroup layers, such as those in the head, tend to be complex and involve layers which I don't need to touch anymore).

This would mean you could work with many characters at once even if your rigs contained dozens of layers, and still see all the layers you need to animate without scrolling.

Here's my similar request. At the time, I was only thinking of layer sorting groups, but we do need to be able to hide or better organize the layer window.
