Which is More Worth my While?

Post by Oyster Man »

I was curios if anyone could tell me what would be better to save up for; Anime Studio Pro or Poser.

1. This is an AS Pro forum -- what do you think most people here are going to say?
2. What do you want to use either of them for? If it is 3D figure work, better buy Poser. If it's 2D animation using a bones system, then it's AS Pro. If you don't buy both, you can't have both.
You can't have everything. Where would you put it?

Both. My question to you is; 'What do you want to do? 2D or 3d animation?'

Anime Studio can do 2d animation, just as photoshop can do pictures. Knowing how photoshop works doesn't make you an artiest. Knowing AS don't make you an animator.

Poser can do 3d animation, the down side to knowing it is that you won't get a job because you can animate in poser. You won't get a job with knowing AS but with AS you make everything yourself. With poser you buy the content and make your movies. Sure you can learn modeling, rigging, textureing, lighting, but then why buy Poser, just get blender? The other real down side is poser has no rendering farm. The best solution is import into another 3d program. Look at the all of poser artiest that do just pictures and after awhile you will realize that 99% bought everything in their picture. That means I can duplicate any one of them. It goes the same with poser animation. You don't really own your work if some else can make a exact copy and their is nothing you can do about it.

They are both totally different.

What should I save up for? A new toaster? Or a pair of shoes? ;)

Download the FREE DEMO TRIAL SOFTWARE for both and see which one you want to have the most. Depending on your artistic talent I think AS will give you more immediate results. Poser is 3D and by it's very nature 3D requires much more effort to produce a final product. However it comes with completely ready to animate easily modifiable characters. On the other hand it's an absolute NIGHTMARE to create new ORIGINAL characters in Poser. AS is much easier to use in that regard but to create your own characters some talent is required.

I've seen more completed final animated projects (commercials, TV shows, etc) done with AS than with Poser.

Hey, I'll give you a perspective that no one has -- if you want to produce stills, go for Poser. If you have any desire at all to do animation (like TV or films or even shorts for the internet) then you need AS.

As others have said here, one is 3D (Poser) and the other 2D (AS) and my answer speaks directly to this. I have for decades done work in 3D and I can tell you without any hesitation at all there is no way you will be able to do 3D animations of any length whatsoever. Oh, you can make some interesting very short stuff, but even with my high end equipment and software (approaching $100K easily) it took months to do any significant 3D animation and that was a royal PITA.

With AS, OTHO, I'm able to produce a half-hour show in about a week. And I have no talent. So if your desire is to do more than produce pretty looking stills, then you need AS (Poser is fantastic for stills, though -- photo-realistic stuff that can be extremely amazing. You won't get photo real with AS, no matter how hard you try).

How's that for telling it like it is?

how about this: http://www.makehuman.org/blog/index.php it's free. Not quite Poser, but a long way toward it-especially for the price.

Vern-save for the shoes. The joy of toast isn't all it's cracked up to be (I have an old animation about that somewhere, I guess I'll have to find it).

Oyster Man probably doesn't know much about either, and maybe some friends told him (her?) what ought to be purchased, but not necessarily why. Or, something else happened. Strange question though, isn't it?

I asked this because I, along with my team, are making an RTS game called Parasite Wars. I'm the leader and in charge of a little of everything but mostly cinematics. I have Anime Studio 5, but wasn't sure if I wanted to go ahead and upgrade.

As I've found out, on my own, I can get a lot of the things I want by just having different models for things.

Thank you all for the help, I really REALLY appreciate it.
