If I buy Anime Studio Pro will my old characters carry over?
Hello, thats my question "If I buy Anime Studio Pro will my old characters carry over?"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O8J3C-GEcSc shenaniganary intro
Don't know why not.
I imported several characters from our series and they all seem to work fine (just the same as they did). If there's one thing Mike would have done is make sure that old files still opened and work as before (with some exceptions -- some of the fills and effects don't work the same way, but apparently they will still render as before, they just aren't usable for new stuff).

You are talking about the new version right? Not opening "Standard" files in 'Pro"?
Yes they will open fine... with a few things to watch for.
If you open files with Gradient, Spots or Splotchy shape effects and select those shapes, the effect menu in the style palette will appear "blank".
The gradient effect is now different. Shapes using the old gradient effect will open fine and render the same but you can't "edit" the original settings. If you change the shape gradient effect to the new gradient effect it will "erase" the settings and any keys from the original shape effect.
Spots and Splotchy effects are "obsolete" and have been removed in the new version. However just like the gradient effect they will open and render just like the they did in the previous version. You just won't be able to change the settings for the effects. Those effects were slow to render and can be done with image textures.
