an idea to make switch folders faster

Post by rpc9943 »

hey, just had an idea

for changing switch folders-

arrows left and right can control the frame, perfect, we already have that.

what if we could then use arrows up and down to select through the folder to choose the switch layer?

I created a tool a while back that used fkeys to insert actions. This could be modified for switch layers. Once the switch layer is selected do an "alt+fkey" to select a layer in the switch. Trouble is most people have more switch layers than fkeys.

I also have a modified point tool I created for a specific job that required quickly selecting vector layers in a switch. This tool was not able to set the keys for the switch. It only would select the layers inside so I could navigate the layers quickly for editing. This tool could be modified to work within any group layer or even at the root level.

So... put those together... after selecting the switch layer how would you activate that layer or key that layer in the switch? You would need that switch layer "open" to be able to select inside it... which seems counter intuitive to me. The fkey might work. I think I got more than what is normally available by using additional modifier keys.

Interesting idea.

I've already created tools to set the currently selected layer to be the active key. No need for having the switch open. (viewtopic.php?t=11712&highlight=switch) Also I have scripts to go from parent switch layer and active child and back. Check my script page for those.
The hard part is to just step between the layers with the arrow keys. It's what the original post was about and I have no solution to this.
