I saw and prove the new Particle Layer Tool (In News/ Scripts section) and What a GREAT script! You're talking about the Particle tool? It's been there some time. You could easily build a tool script to control anything in a layer. It's not that hard. You should look at them (in the code). If I have the time, I will make up a "framework" script for changing any 1 parameter in a script, and then you just need to find that parameter in the script reference and put it in your script. Particularly for layer opacity. If you want to write that one I would use it, for sure.
