Create Shape acts unexpectedly

Post by guegra »

Anime Studio v 6.1 is going to drive me mad.
It seems that there are bugs in the 'create_shape_lua'. You can rarely preview, what happens when you create shapes.
Sometimes the program does the things you desired sometimes it does something else.
I drew a human figure in CoralDraw. It's made from 17 shapes. I exported it as a *.ai or *.eps file. When I import the figure to AS the colors are not the ones that I choose in CorelDraw. So I have to choose the right colors again in AS. Normally this would be a work that you could do in a few minutes. But the create-shape-tool sometimes changes colors of shapes thad I didn't choose. Sometimes it brings shapes to the front that have been in the back. When you try to bring them to the back color is changed again.
Though AS has very nice possibilities especially for animating characters, -but do it only with pixel-graphic never with vector-graphic - the item of styles is filled with bugs. The styles-window and its behaviour is a mystery and its documentation is poor.
I think I should stop working with this software before it drives me completely mad.

I never have had this problem. Maybe if you could post the file (I have CorelDraw X3 and ASpro6) I could help you. You can try installing version 6.2 too.

Gnaws made a little tutorial about importing Illustrator files, you can check it here
viewtopic.php?t=8862&start=30
It is based on Illustrator, but can be perfectly applied to Corel Draw.

Anyway, you must understand that AS vectors are not like Corel or Illustrator vectors. Actually, I think the great of AS is the work with vectors rather than with bitmaps. When you import an .ai file, it must be "redraw" by AS. This redrawing sometimes gives bad results.
I always recommend to understand first how AS vectors works. It can be difficult at first if you come from the Illustrator paradigm, but once you get I think you will agree with me.
If you need any help, of course you can ask on forum.

Hello,
Thank you for your answer. Yesterday evening I tried to reproduce and to document the malfunctions. I made a documentation and you can look at it:

http://www.g-grauel.de/as_doku/

It's not an EPS-import-problem.

This morning I reinstalled the english version 6.0.
I didn't have the problems there.

Good idea providing the screen shots. From your description and diagrams it looks like to me that you are creating new shapes for the limbs etc. however you are not deleting the previously created shapes from the export. So when you lower your new shapes, the old ones from the export now become 'higher' than your new ones making it appear that the new ones have changed style. Just delete the old shapes using the delete shapes tool. A faster workflow would be to import the drawing, select the shapes you want changed using the select shape tool, then simply go to the colour palette and choose your new colour, and change your line width, etc. No need to create duplicate shapes. The colour change on importing I can't explain, but it happens a lot. You could just make your artwork as black lines with white fills, so when you import you will just use the paint bucket tool to fill in the colours. That will at least save you the effort of filling in colours in both applications.
