Small 3D character made in ASP7

Post by ponysmasher »

Was playing around with the new 3D features and made this... thing.

It's fun to play with the 3D stuff but right now I doubt I'll use it for professional work. Maybe for some small stuff.

This is very well done, really like the simplicity of this character! Good Job!

Man, this looks awesome. I look forward to playing with AS7. This is precisely the kind of stuff I'd be looking to make.

This looks great and it's a nice demonstration of the new 3d. I'm looking at the file you provided and can't figure out how you got the eyes and mouth to wrap on the 3d object. did you just carefully position them so they appear to wrap?

Yeah, they're just positioned and angled like that.

Thanks, ponysmasher. That's an excellent example of why there are some 3D features in version 7. If you look at it like we're trying to be a 3D app like Maya or 3ds Max, then yes, there's a lot lacking in the 3D department. But if you're looking for simple 3D to complement your 2D elements, then I think it can be useful.

I did this today and its the 1st time Ive ever used any 3d program. I had downloaded Wings 3D 1.2 at the 1st part of June but never even opened it till today. What is best format to export from Wings to work best in AS7 Pro? Also i have another 3D program that has 2 different .OBJ extensions.

Anyways here is my 1st stab at it.

I just made a sphere and pulled some points up then rotated and it looked like a top so i just spun it around a few time.

alot of people posted today so this my have got missed so I'll repost it.

I guess what I am asking is what is the best format to save a 3D image as for import to AS?

Ive downloaded a few 3D programs over the last week or so and so far I'm having a tad trouble getting them to import to AS. I am 100% sure its not AS thats the problem, its me not knowing what the heck I'm doing.

I think AS only can handle .obj format and with the .mtrl file (the information of color or texture)
I don't know about the different .obj extensions, what is that?

I guess what I mean is this other 3D program (Daz studio) I have has 2 options for .OBJ, Wavefront Object and a Autodesk FBS .OBJ.

Sbtamu--You could try exporting each type of obj to compare the results. I haven't been able to show my materials using wavefront objs in AS7. Maybe in the other format, they would show.
