Having Bone Issues

Post by pihms »

Bones seem to have some learning curve for me. I'm trying to get some decent arm bends but seem to have trouble understanding how to make it all work. Here is an example of hoe the figure is laid out.
Image

In this example the arm is manipulated using the Bone Strengths, without any binding. I Tried doing that with the left side with no results.
Image

I decided to bond the points on the left side arm and got this. For some reason, I'm losing color in the hand as I move it.
Image

I would appreciate any insight on what I could be doing wrong.

Thanks.[/img][/code]

*As you can see, besides having bone issues, I can't seem to figure out how to get the pictures to display on the post.

First of all you only need a "/" in the closing image tag. If you write your URL, highlight it and click the Img button it will make it a proper image automatically. (you can see how it's supposed to be if you click Quote on this post).

The reason to the problem in picture 2 could be that you accidentally bound the whole layer to one bone with the Bind layer tool. If it happens again try selecting the Bind layer tool and clicking on a bone free area.

As for why you get a color error, I'm not sure. Maybe a bug with gradients? Weird that it only happens on one side.

Gradients moves only with bone strenght (they work like images), if right arm bones has no strenght, you will get that strange results.

That explains the gradient problem. Very good to know about how that affects gradients.

Thanks!

Any idea why the bone strength (only) on the right side moves the arms normally, but wouldn't move the arms at all on the left side?

looking at your image the charactors right(screen left) arm bones dont have an envelope showing. points move with the nearest bone if no envelope is around... you need to make its width bigger.

I had a similar problem with the arm not bending with the movement of the bones in the arm. If you just use the rectangle to draw the arm and don't put any dots on the outline of the rectangle it won't bend when you put in bones.
