How do I animate line width?

How do I animate the line width?

I'm on a Mac with a one-button mouse (so no art tablet). The only thing I can get is either tapered to zero line width or full line width, but nothing in between.

I'm on a PC, but I don't see it should make a difference.

With line width tool select the point where you want to change the linewidth drag right for thicker, left for thinner.
