Particle system improvements.

Post by MarkBorok »

I know this has probably been mentioned before, but here goes anyway.

1) ability to keyframe particle layer properties over time so particles can be blown about by wind, etc.

2) exploding outwards (eg fireworks) and movement along Z axis of particles. Since it's already possible to distribute particles in 3D space, it should also be possible to have them move towards/away from the camera. Zooming through star fields, anyone?

Both of these features seem like they should be fairly easy to add.

Sorry, don't mean to put so much pressure on LM, I just don't know which features have already been asked for.

Fortunately, there are plenty of new features that should require only a minor tweaking of existing code. I think this is one of them.

(The other day I was at the ToonBoom Studio forum and someone asked how to make a snowfall animation. I advised them first on the way to create it in ToonBoom, then suggested they buy Moho and use the particle system and combine the results of that with their ToonBoom animation. I whipped up a nice, 3D snowfall in two seconds.)

One way to work around request #2 is to turn the particle layer 90 degrees toward the camera, so that you're looking at it on edge. Be sure to give the particle emitter some depth, and you'll probably have to turn the particles 90 degrees the opposite way so that you don't look at them on edge.

I think an example might clear this up:
