Bones used as control levers-how to tag them?

Post by aji »

Today learned to create control levers form Bones via smart bone option. It is wonderful feature. Some doubts please clear
How to tag the control lever bones..?
Is it by note layers..?
Morph dials being mentioned in earlier times is it control levers as I talking about. In my knowldge morph dial is a script used in earlier version. Now it is added to anime studio and renamed SMART BONES. And this feature used for cotrol lever making. Please clear this doubts
1.how to tag control lever bones . Is it by note layers
2.Morph dial and Smart bones-control levers is they are same
3.please elaborate---Morph dial vs smart bones vs blend morphs

my english is poor. I think I could convey my doubts.
Please reply
Many many thanks in advance and sincere gratitude for clear my earlier doubts in no time

Hi Aji,

1) in 9.5 you can select the bone and click on 'show label' at the top - this puts a simple text label below the bone which uses the bone name. If you want a more complicated system where you can label a screen area as being 'Face controls' for example, and have little vector shapes showing the min and max values for a bone position you can just create a vector layer and set it to 'Don't render this layer' - that way you can see it when working but it will not be rendered.

2) Morph Dials aren't directly related to Smart Bones - MD's were created by Rudiger a while back and in some ways it allows more elaborate set ups of controllers, but it is an external script and a lot more complex to use than SB's, and so has more of an impact on general program performance when things get complicated. They used SINGLE FRAME ACTIONS to define a 'pose' which can be mixed freely with others.

Smart Bones allow you to have a MULTI FRAME ACTION (a movement) which relates to the angle of the bone - which gives you repeatable control over very complex movements that you can animate by hand.

The basics of both as control levers is the same.

3) Blend morphs are what came before Smart Bones, and they allow you to mix SINGLE FRAME ACTIONS (poses) with each other, much like Morph Dials did (but MD's allowed you to use 'control bones' rather than multiple sliders). They may still have their uses, for mixing things like facial poses, but in general, Smart Bones are preferable as you can very finely tune the movement TO and FROM a pose, rather than just the end result.

BM's are easiest to set up and least controllable. They are single keyframe actions that don't need a bone, and are controlled with a slider.

SB's are slightly more complicated to set up than BM's, but give you the most control out of the box. SB's are the future.

MD's are most complex to install and set up but can have some benefits in very specific situations you will probably not need (mixing poses by a control bone's proximity to multiple other control bones for example).

HI I am really new to Anime Studio...hell animation in general. I was looking at creating an animation for my grandsons birthday but was lookin at things like bones, morphing etc to make a head turn. I originally followed the advice of the tutorial videos when creating my character so each limb etc is on a different layer and the eyes and mouth are on seperate switch layers. I downloaded the morph dials script but cant seem to install them. Any ideas and advice in the best way to rotate a head or body in the manner i created the character would really be a help. I am rapidly running out of time, and to be perfectly honest am getting more and more confused the more i look into the problem. CAN ANYONE PLEASE PLEASE HELP? I am using win7 and Pro 9.
