Slow Character Wizard

Hi everyone.

I'm using a
P4 2.66ghz with Win XP sp3 and IE 8.
AS 9.2 Pro
Nvidia 7600 gs 256mb
Ram 3gb
DirectX 9.0c
Graphics drivers fully updated.


The character Wizard repeatedly pauses with "not responding", after every dial selection. It does not crash, just takes ages to create a character.
Library was also slow, but setting to "old library" preference, solved that problem.

Has anyone else had slow character wizard performance, or know how to speed up the wizard?

I am having my AS 9.5 "not responding" every time I try and add Text. How do you change the preferences to 'old library'? This is really frustrating...

The setting is in the top menu bar, in EDIT -> Preferences, OPTIONS TAB, Use old library, tick box.
I think it only helps make the Content Library, work better, using the old icons from earlier.

May be if you post what you are doing with the text and give more information, someone may have a solution.

Text tool in AS is loading the system font library. If you have a bazillion fonts installed it could have an effect on the loading in AS.

As for the character wizard, I have no clue. I haven't had trouble with it in v9 or 9.5. I wonder if it might have something to do with hard drive issues? Did this "just start" happening? If so it could be something with your system, something that changed to cause this. It might also have to do with any custom items you have added to the CW.

I have a bad connection on my root drive, so I bought an external 1tb drive, and backed up.
Root does system files only, so I'm going to convert the disc controllers from IDE to SATA. I think you could be right, if the character creator needs high disc use. It could also be why PREVIEW render crashes to desktop occasionally.

As to Lil's text problem. Years ago, I used Corel draw 4, and slowed the whole system to a crawl, by loading EVERY True Type Font on the cd, on to my desktop. Ouch!
