Help With Making 3D Objects!

Post by Hopper200456 »

Hey! Been awhile since I needed help on something... But anyway!

I'm making a 3D Companion Cube from Portal for fun and for a future animation (but mostly for fun), and I need some help!

So this is what I've got so far:
Image
So yeah, heh, not much but a start. It's a full cube, by the way.

So I need help with how to make the circle with the heart on it stick out. I have it sticking out, but I'm trying for figure out how to do the edge.
Here's a picture because I'm terrible at explaining:
Image

See, I have it sticking out like I want, but how should I do the edging so it actually looks like it's connected?
Thanks for you time guys!

(I'm using Anime Studio 9.2)

one way to do this (which I hope gives you the effect you want):

have the circle and the heart in different layers.

make the circle a 3d extrude layer at a z separation from the cube that you now have ...
select the circle _shape_ (shortcut Q) and in (advanced) style set the thickness of the extrusion so that the back edge touches the cube face (should work out to be the z separation between cube face and circle)

have the heart as a 2d layer and set its z (which ought to work out to be twice that of the circle z separation) so that it sits just on top of the extruded circle.

(and, just in case you haven't done this already - the group layer that holds the cube plus circles/hearts needs to be sort by depth)

if that's not clear, just ask and I'll upload an example

Alright thank you! I think this'll work, and I think I understand how to do it.
I can't do anything at the moment, but when I do, I'll ask you if I don't understand something.

Select the heart shape then go to the advances settings on the style pallet and adjust the thickness of the extrude. Or adjust the z setting more.
Sorry for bad animation

Wow! It's looks so good now! Thanks! You guys are the best!

Also, if I have anymore questions with making this, should I post them here? Or create a new topic?

Okay- I'm back. (Yeah, it's only been a day)

So, I'm adding these extra edges, but for some reason AS adds these weird extra bits. Yeah yeah, picture:

Image

So yeah, The lighter edges are the "extra bits". You see, I have the extrude thickness set to 0.02 but it has these lighter edges look more like they're 0.07 or something. You can see the darker 0.02 clipping through, and those are the parts I want. This is on the same layer, and I haven't set any other settings than used for the Heart Plate.

Thanks for the help guys!

I have fan across this before. What I do is go into orbit view and spin the object around to get a good view and adjust Z values and thicknesses until those line go away.

You really shouldn't be trying to construct complex 3d objects in Anime Studio. Anime Studio can import 3d models well, but it wasn't really designed with 3d modeling in mind. I found a great companion cube 3d model made by SaphireNishi (http://saphirenishi.deviantart.com/art/ ... -294074652). She allows people to use her models as long as they give her credit, so that's pretty cool.

I went ahead and downloaded her model and packaged it for use in Anime Studio. You can download it right here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bwzk-f ... sp=sharing

After you download it, just unzip it and then load up Anime Studio. In Anime Studio, go to file>Import>OBJ 3d Model and select Companion_Cube.obj

After the 3d model loads up, just double click on its name in the layers palette and go to the 3d tab. I'd suggest unchecking Creases, Silhouettes and Materials and then setting the shading to None. Hit apply and bam, you're good to go. You can move the 3d model around using the rotation tool and you can scale it just like a normal layer.

(sorry it's been awhile, was working on something else)
The reason I was building it myself was mostly because I wanted to learn how to use and build 3D objects.

But anyway I threw it into Anime Studio and it's great! The only problem is it's all white, texture-less. I went ahead and download the version on the DeviantART page, and it came with the texture, but I'm unsure how to apply it.

Thanks for helping, guys!!

AHHHGGGGG!

Glad you worked things out. Great job on the cube...

but... any chance you could change your avatar? I actually had to place my hand over the computer screen to cover your avatar.

:)

That's why I gave you the second link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bwzk-f ... sp=sharing

I took her model and packaged it for Anime Studio. Go to that link and download both of the files there. Then import the OBJ and you should get the model with texture.

Yeah! That's the one I used it and it's all just white.
Thanks for doing that, by the way!
