When I move a layer on the timeline, it affects the previous

Post by Pinesal »

Then I am animating a layer to move with the move layer tool and I make it move across several key frames, sometimes, often, moving the moving the layer on the current key frame will also move the layer on the previous key frame.

So If I move the layer down, then advance the time line and move it up, the previous (down) frame will also move up.

Is this a bug? or a feature I can turn off?

Just guessing, but it sounds like "relative keyframing" is checked and you have a key frame selected in the time line.

Look at the timeline, there is a checkbox "relative keyframing". If checked, and other key frames are selected and you move the layer on another key frame, the selected key frame will move the same amount relative to it's current value.

Ok I'll look for it. Thanks.

Can you give an example of then you'd use that feature?

Edit: I do see a check box next to four dots forming a square but it's not labeled.

No, The box you describes is at the bottom the document work area. The relative keyframing box is at the top of the timeline palette, next to the onionskin and other options.

This feature is useful for globally changing an animated layer property. Say you animated a layer translation over a long series of key frames. Then you need to move ALL the keys the same amount. You select all the keys, check the relative keyframing box and then move the layer. This will change all of the keys at the same time without having to change every single key frame.

If I remember correctly, in 9.2 and/or 9.5 there was no option to disable relative keyframing. If you had multiple keyframes selected while animating, they would automatically be relative.

Try making sure no keyframes are selected while animating.

Yes, I am on 9.2.

If it's just a matter of not having key frames selected. I'll consider this, problem solved.

Thanks for the help.
