Do I Have a Glitch?

Post by StormWyvern »

I know this is a long post, but I am in desperate need of answers, so please bare with me. I have been using Anime Studio for several years now. I updated to Pro 8 almost a year ago, and I've just recently joined this forum because I am highly concerned with what seems to have happened to my version of Anime Studio, now that I've gotten back into it after a hiatus from animation for awhile. I am convinced now that I may be experiencing some sort of glitch version of Anime Studio, either that or it's the fault of my stupid computer. (My computer doesn't even know how to update itself)

The first problem, right off the bat, is that when I upgraded from Pro 6 to Pro 8 about a year or so ago, all of the pre-made, importable content disappeared. You know, like the default characters, backgrounds, props, etc. that come with the program when you purchase or upgrade it? My Pro 6 had everything, but it all went away when I upgraded to Pro 8. It's not that I'm really disappointed, since I know how to make my own characters and all that, but it's still very strange. The screenshot below shows this, you can see that the Library is completely empty. And there's nothing I can import, even after I have looked for the actual files of the objects on my hard drive, but they're nowhere to be found.

There's no screenshot for this one, but the second problem I have is that when I tried to get some downloadable content from the Anime Studio website, I had to enter my serial number in order to download something, however, the site did not recognize my version's serial number. I tried everything I could, I carefully entered it in over and over again but it still couldn't recognize it. Am I running an "unverified" version of Anime Studio Pro 8 on my computer? I certainly hope not.

And my third issue is one I seem to have been coming across in my vectors lately. This one is actually the most frustrating for me. I have no idea if anyone else has experienced it, please share if you have. Whenever I proceed with coloring a vector, sometimes this random white line shows up. It only appears on the rendered image, not in the program. However this is a problem as, obviously, what the rendered image looks like is how the animation/video appears. I have no idea how to get rid of this line seeing as it does not show up in editing mode. It's not a line I have made with points in the program, in the program there is nothing there, so why does it appear in the rendering like that? Sometimes even other lines appear sporadically in different spots, but this one has always been there. The only conclusion I can come up with as to why this weird slash comes up is that it generally appears on more complex vectors. I still have no idea why, though. I've kind of learned to live with it since I can't do anything about it, but it still irks me every time it shows, seeing as I am very close to starting an animated series with this character.

And I already know that line isn't because of the space image texture on the wings. I used to have the wings colored plain purple and the line would still show. Any tips on how I can fix this would be greatly appreciated. Anyway I am quite baffled at all these things, and I'd like to know what's going on with my version. All of these problems lead me to believe it's some kind of unfortunate glitch, but please let me know what you think. If you have questions, I'll try to answer them as best I can. This happened quite a long time ago, but like I stated above, I recently got back into it and realized how weird it was.

This is purely a guess without being able to see the file or how the shapes are applied.

The "update" white stroke problem may be caused by the new way that v10 handles point widths.

In past versions the stroke weight of a point would effect all shapes with the same value. So if you had more than one shape that shared a point, and you used the point width tool on a single point, all the shapes would have exactly the same point width. If you had an arm or leg that was created with a stroke shape you couldn't have a second stroke shape on the same points to create an "outline" have variable widths for the stroke. All the points would have the same point width value.

v10 has a brand new point weight feature. Point widths are now applied to each SHAPE independently based on the stroke shapes style width instead of applying the same width value just to the point.

This allows for multiple stroke shape styles to have variable widths that aren't all exactly the same. This is good for stroke arms or legs with variable widths on the points and you can have a second darker, wider stroke for an outline. You couldn't do that with past versions of ASP.

Missing older version content

When you updated, the "old" version of Anime Studio was... well.. it was overwritten by the new version. However, the new version "should" have "most" of that older library content that came with the application. If your older version of ASP didn't have the custom content folder feature, and you were storing your own content in the application library folder (v6) then the new version would overwrite that library. Any custom content in there was probably overwritten.

Since v9 I think (might be v8? Can't remember), there is a custom content folder that is SEPARATE from the application library. When updating Anime Studio, this folder is NOT overwritten, so any of your custom library content (scripts, characters, brushes, etc) would not be effected.

Serial number on SM site
The serial number issue I think is a known problem. Someone else had this problem and contacted Smith Micro support and they took care of it.

Typically those white lines are caused by two vector points on the shape being too close together, essentially making a very tiny loop.

I appreciate the helpful info, guys. Looks like I'm in desperate need of an upgrade to v10... Wow, I've missed a lot. I'm always behind everyone.

I will try to fix the points up so I can get rid of the line.

Glad to know at least I'm not the only one experiencing the serial code issue.
