its annoying how a lot the thing starts moving from the start of the timeline.
It's much easier selectign when u start and stop moving the point.

I think you need to insert a keyframe at the point where you want to have the action start to take place. For example, let's say that you have action that takes place between frame 20 and 30. Create a keyframe at 20, which is just a copy of keyframe 0, that is, no action whatsoever. Then, at frame 30, have your end result. That way, between 0 and 20 there is no action.
