Editing multiple items in Channel Editor

Does the Channel Editor only support editing one item at a time? This morning I had two smart bone dials selected and I was copying pasting keys in the Channel Editor but my copy/paste operation only worked on one of the items. Is this why the names of items aren't supported in the editor...because you have to select what you want to edit.

The Channel/Motion Graph editor has been the most cumbersome part of the program for me so far.

Yes, the motion graph only works for one element at a time.
