Shadow layer + masking

Post by cableon »

Hi everyone,
Would there be a way to exclude layer shadows from masking please ?

A very basic question for sure, but I cannot seem to find any answer on the forum. Could have I missed something ?

In case it wasn't clear engough, let's take an example.

Image

In the picture above, the mouth is a 3 vector-layer folder, made of
- a teeth vector layer [masked]
- a tongue vector layer [masked]
- a mouth vector layer [added to mask]
in that order.

The golden "lower lip" glow is obtained by applying a blurred *layer shadow* to the mouth layer, which however can't seem to be excluded from the masking effect, as a regular stroke would be for instance. Same with the teeth at the corners of the mouth.
I have thought of alternatives of course, such as replacing the mouth's layer shadow by a golden stroke with variable line width for instance, with a slight blur applied to the whole mouth layer, but then the upper lip would be blurred too, and it wouldn't really solve my problem.

So I guess I am stalled for now.

Any clues please ?

this should work -- assuming you're on AS11..

copy by reference the mouth layer
remove the layer shadow from the copy

then...

mouth Group - hide all
> teeth - mask this layer
> tongue - mask this layer
> mouth copy - add to mask and keep invisible
> mouth - don't mask

animate the mouth, and the copy will follow..
