Nevermind the buttocks - What is that bow-tie thing at the end of the bone? It seems to interfere with my attempts to make the character's leg move. What is its purpose? How did it get there? How do I remove it?

I believe that's because you keyframed the parenting of that bone. I know one of my animators ran into that problem and he had accidentally did that.
