Question about the soft edge

So one of my styles as an animator is the usage of Soft edge, I use it as a way of shading. In Anime studio pro 9, it had a very clean and almost subtle look to it which I really enjoyed. in AS11 though, it does something that kind of ruins everything on me. instead of gradual, the colors just distort into a really psychedelic outline of what I'm trying to do. Is there a way to fix this?

I'll try to clarify. Soft Edge makes everything look Cell Shaded. Is there a way to make the soft edge effect on the fill not appear to be cell shaded? It's kind of messing with my whole world.

Sounds like you've got threshold checked, that would do it.
