Selign Body Turn and his reference layer mouth trick

Post by TheMinahBird »

So I'm rigging this character and here's what I have so far:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B_8kI ... nA2TWVkUkk (sorry about the quality I didn't feel like rendering her)

But she's a rig of this character:

I know how to do it but say you wanted to turn the character and their clothes change? Like would you mask it? Also Selign (or Victor? I'm not sure) you have saved my life, you and too Neeters! I'm rigging a character and I'm using the techniques you guys are using and it makes me really happy. I'm finally getting the hang of smart bones too, everything is just going peachy.

shirt: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B_8kI ... TlBc1gyWjg

skirt: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B_8kI ... 3hZcWxZY0k

The skirt is what's really tripping me up because I feel like for the shirt if I just make the collar on its own layer and then do the animated ordering and some trickery it could work, but for the skirt since it's so simple it's confusing
me..

Maybe I can do a ring effect with reference layers?? Like make the skirt be as if it's around her waist and do it that way?

X3 I'm sure you guys have simpler ways to do this, but I'm trying to incorporate it into the Selign body turn method as well.

You may get more responses if you post a file with your own attempts.

Now that I think about it.. I came here because I really don't know how to do it.. That's why I asked ><

But it's ok I guess I'll just wing it.

If you haven't made any attempt yourself, it's a lot like asking for the answers to your homework. You don't even mention any part of Selgin's (Victor's) technique that may be giving you problems. You won't get far in animation unless you start trying techniques yourself. Part of the learning process is finding out what not to do, and more importantly, why you don't want to do them. If you're always handed a ready-made solution, your troubleshooting skills will not be improved, and you'll always be waiting for someone else to give you the answer.

Every good animator is almost constantly 'winging it', because every good animator is always learning and trying new techniques.

Sorry if I'm annoying everyone then, that's why I came here because I didn't know what technique to use.

And if you read it, I wasn't necessarily confused with the body turn so muck as I was confused with how to handle the clothes. Sorry if I come across as a demanding, helpless child, I don't mean for it to be that way I just wanted guidance.

And I wasn't asking for anyone to rig her for me! No that's not the case! Maybe that's what you're taking from this? No I just wanted a simple reference rig to go off of, that's why I sent those photos to demonstrate what I meant. I feel really bad now, like I didn't want to annoy anyone. ;_; Sorry Synth.

No problem. But asking for a reference rig can be a lot to ask before you've shown any attempt yourself, especially when the technique you mention has been fully demonstrated (and people are happy to answer any questions if you get stuck trying to use it). Most people here have busy lives, and it can be much faster to help you if they just have to download a file you're working on and make some quick changes.

I'm just trying to give you some pointers, so you get more response from people. No reason to feel bad.

Ok! I get what you mean, sorry I over reacted I'm just hypersensitive and I look up to all of you! I never want to offend anyone, I can send the file and post what I'm trying to do in a rendered animation.

Uh, all the torso layers are blank. Your main question here is about clothes, right?

Looks pretty good so far. Here's a small change that may help sell the skirt turn:
